SANTO TOMAS, Davao del Norte (October 4, 2021)—Mayor Ernesto Evangelista and Barangay Tibal-og village chief Ricky Inodio-an met the purok leaders to further strengthen the implementation of the COVID-19 Safety protocols and enforcement of minimum health protocols in their respective communities.

“Dako ang papel sa mga purok leader sa pag-implementar sa mga Covid-19 protocols. Kining panagtapok atong gihanyag kung unsa ang status sa atong Covid-19 cases sa atong lungsod para sila mismo ang mahimong magbalantay sa ilang komunidad,” Mayor Ernesto Evangelista said in his speech on Monday, Oct. 4 at the Santo Tomas Central Elementary School’s Covered Court. 

Evangelista said that he recognized the critical role of barangays in preventing the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), urging them to be more proactive in enforcing minimum health protocols in their respective communities.

Evangelista explained to the purok leaders the importance of monitoring and adherence to the protocols and public minimum health standards such as wearing face masks, physical or social distancing, and regular handwashing. 

The local chief executive also urged them to discourage mass gatherings, especially those were not approved by the Santo Tomas LGU COVID-19 Task Force.

Aside from policing the enforcement of these standards in their barangays, Evangelista also requested them to do regular cleaning and disinfection within their local communities. 

All-out support in Aksyon Sa Kalusogan program

For his part, Barangay Tibal-og village chief Ricky Inodio-an expressed support to the order of Mayor Ernesto Evangelista, saying that strengthening the COVID-19 protocols would promote safety and maintain comfort of the barangay inhabitants while at the state of the pandemic. 

Inodio-an said the Barangay Tibal-og Council would revisit and further adopt measures that would adhere to the existing guidelines and policies regarding implementations of the protocols and violations of health protocols.

As a support to the Evangelista administration’s Aksyon Sa Kalusogan program, Inodio-an also vowed to strengthen the role of the Barangay Health Emergency Response Teams (BHERTs) in helping Tomasinos navigate the public healthcare system.

BHERTs are initially tasked to provide immediate and appropriate emergency assistance during the pandemic. They work closely with the Santo Tomas LGU to implement necessary health programs and standards and disseminate protocols and updates to, their assigned households.

It can be recalled that Inodio-an met the Barangay Health Workers to discuss solutions and streamline their operations that could effectively deliver the basic health services of those Tomasinos dealing with the deadly virus.
